Ericka's Story

here's my first story in the series

Chapter one: Late for class

Ericka Smith sprinted down the shiny, slippery, and clattery halls of Mount Prospect High. She was going to be so late for her first period class. And she knew for sure that Mrs. Jennice was going to kill her. Her heart was beating so quickly she thought it was going to escape from her chest. Clop, Clop her tennis shoes sounded as they clattered hard on the hard pavement. It was so eerily quiet that if a pin dropped everyone would be able to hear it. Relief. Relief was what she felt when she made it to her first period class. Her first period class was her least favorite class Psychology and what made it worst was her teacher Mr. Shellenberger. He would never accept homework unless it was perfect. But there were exceptions for his few favorite students. To all of his other students he treated them like they were nothing. All she knew was she was not among his few favorites. Therefore everyone in the school thought he was the most strict teacher on the face of this planet.
When she finally walked into the eerily quiet classroom, she looked around. On one side were the jocks sitting together of course. In the other corner were the most unpopular people in the school. They were the Goth kids who were trailer trash. Trailer trash was anyone who lived in a trailer park, in her opinion they were just plain stupid and rotten.
Everyone in the class was reading a book. Obviously it was the day that everyone would read a book in class. She hated reading it was so boring. Especially the book her boring, dull, non cool parents got her to read. The book was ancient it was from, what her parents said, 2,000 years ago. You probably have figured out what book she's reading. If you haven't figured out she's talking about the Bible. The Bible. It was filled with stories about a God her parents believed in. But in her opinion it was filled with lies. Yes, lies it was too good to be true. She hated the fact that her parents were religious nuts. But what was worst was the fact that they had managed to get through to every single brother and sister of hers. Her brothers were extremely (What was the word she was looking for?) unique.
Her older brother Jason was 17 years old and a senior in high school. The thing Jason wanted to be was a pastor, a pastor! Her older brother wanted to be a pastor!! She couldn't believe this; to her this was one of the most embarrassing things. She just didn't think that Jason was cut out to be a pastor. He wasn't the perfect person, but he hadn't
gotten in trouble with teachers or with the law. This was all just too strange.
Then came her fraternal twin brother Erick, he was a little more down to earth. Erick wanted to be a doctor, so he could help people. The type of doctor Erick wanted to be was a doctor who helped disable people. She didn't know why but that's what he wanted to be.
Then came her brothers David and Derrick the two wise cracks of the family. Both of them were always playing jokes on her. Of course, both of them were only 13 years old, and in the 7th grade. They were nuts. The most annoying thing about them was when they finished each other's sentences. They were just a pain. Oh, let me just tell you this, another annoying thing about them was they were identical twins, that meant they would always play this game where they would switch person on her. It was annoying. She could also never tell them apart. They were just plain annoying.
That was only half of her family. It was awful. She wished that she was an only child. She longed for a normal family. Not her abnormal, annoying, embarrassing family. But, what was normal? She couldn't answer that question herself. The worst part of her family was coming up. The boys were extremely way better compared to the rest. They were her sisters.
Her oldest sister was named Sarah who was 21 years old. Sarah was the apple of her parent's eyes. Sarah was a good student who had always gotten straight A's. But Sarah wasn't perusing an academic job. No, she was going to be a missionary worker. She wanted to work in the Middle East. Sarah was nuts in her eyes, she was just plain nuts. She couldn't believe how stupid Sarah was thinking. Sarah could get killed in the Middle East. But that didn't stop her.
Her older sister Samantha was 19 years old, and was studying to become a lawyer at Princeton. She was a straight A student, of course. For some reason Samantha and her didn't get along. Well, that wasn't really important. She didn't really care what others thought about her, she was either friends with people, or not friends with people.
The youngest person in her family was Jessica. Jessica was only a toddler at the age of 3. So, she didn't really bother Ericka. Actually she thought Jessica was cool. She would always baby sit and help take care of her. She wasn't all that bad.
Go take your seat, Ericka. Mr. Shellenberger said to her, in his snottiest voice he used with her. The I-don't-like-your-guts-voice, man, did she hate that voice. Why did he hate her so much? She was a good student who got mostly A's and a couple of B's. Yes, she was a good student. But she wasn't anything like her perfect sisters.
Hey. Her best friend said to her when she got to her hard desk. She looked at him his warm smile was happy and welcoming to her.
Hey. She said returning the welcome. Her best friend Judd and her had been best friends since they were born. Destined to be friends. They were destined to be friends because of their annoying parents.
She opened up her big, blue backpack and searched for her book. She looked through all of her things, her cross country clothes, and everything until she finally found it. She took it out, it's cover was like cardboard. She looked at the cover it had a red dragon on it. The name of her book was The Hobbit by: J.R.R Toliken. She opened up the book and started reading.
~~~* 5 Minuets Later! *~~~
Ring, Ring the bell rang signaling the end of class. Ericka got up so quickly that her chair was knocked to the ground with a great Clonk. She quickly picked it up and sauntered quickly to the door. While she was heading toward the door Mr. Shellenberger gave her the I-am-so-disappointed-in-you-look. She hurried out of the classroom and slammed right in her principal Mrs. Jennice. Making her books fall to the floor with a great Thump. I am so sorry. she said so quickly that she was short of breath. Something was happening. What could it be?
Are you alright? Mrs. Jennice asked her immediately. The look on Mrs. Jennice's face showed horror. Dizziness. It was like the whole world was spinning around her.
Blackness all around her. The darkest she had ever seen in her short life. Why was this happening? Panic. She was panicking so badly, she didn't have a clue what was going on. Why wasn't she with Mrs. Jennice anymore? What happened? A voice. Who's voice? Ericka. She heard echoing so loud that her ears started to hurt. It sounded so much like Mrs. Jennice. She suddenly saw a bright light. Got to get near the light, she thought. The light. She had finally reached it.
Huh? She asked regaining consciousness. Where was she? She looked down to find that she was laying on a cold, hard, white as bleach, probably as white as you could get table. She looked up and there standing all around her was Mrs. Jennice, the school nurse Mrs. Hopkees, and on the other side of her nearly in tears was Judd.
Are you okay? he asked her now letting his hot tears stream down his face.
Yeah She said trying to comfort him, but the truth was she didn't know what was happening.
Let's get to class Judd said to her with an extremely shaky voice. He was so concerned about her for some apparent reason.
Okay, what class is it? She asked him.
The end of 6th period He told her.
Okay, I didn't miss gym She said to him.
Ring, Ring the bell sounded. She quickly leaned down and grabbed her stuff, her books and her backpack and everything. She quickly followed Judd out of the nurse's office. She quickly sauntered down the hall to the girl's locker room. She sauntered over to her gym locker. She quickly started opening it, 5, 2, 35 she told herself as she was spinning the combination dial to her gym locker. She grabbed her gym shirt and shorts. She took off her blue jeans and put her blue gym shorts on. Then she took of her plain, white tank top off. And put her blue gym shirt on. She quickly got up and started walking or wobbling more like it. It felt like she was a penguin. It was hard for her to walk; she wobbled over to the mirror, in the locker room. She looked into the mirror her long red hair was down to her back. Her green eyes kept on staring back at her. She quickly put her hair up into a ponytail and sprinted as quickly as she could to the gym.
She sauntered into the hot and humid gym. It was almost as hot as the Sahara desert on an extremely hot day. Ericka, over here She heard a voice call to her. She turned and saw her friend Kristina, but she called her Kristi for short.
Hey She said sprinting towards her friend.
Where were you in Math? Girl? Kristi asked her.
I passed out and had to go to the nurse's office Ericka said to her friend.
You sure you're okay? Kristi asked her. She looked into Kristi's eyes, underneath the emerald green magnificent eyes she could see terror. What was happening to her friend?
Yeah, I'm okay She could barley get out. It was like her heart was stuck in her throat. She was so worried for her friend and herself.
Suddenly the teacher started to talk.
Chapter two: Gym Class
Okay, class let's run the mile her gym teacher Ms. Walton said to them. Her voice had so much power in it. She got up quickly, but lost her balance, she fell to the ground with a great Thump.
You okay? Her friend asked her with concern in her voice.
Yeah, I'm okay, I just lost my balance She said looking straight into her friend's eyes.
Okay, let's go run her friend said to her acting normal. But she could tell that her friend was not okay.
She sprinted as fast as she could. The wind was whipping against her face. Just one more lap to go, she kept telling herself. Suddenly her legs felt like 100 pound weights. They were holding her down to the surface. Her knees began to buckle, this was not good. Cold sweat ran down her face. The sun was beating down on her. Run faster, Ericka She heard Ms. Walton call to her. Ten meters, she told herself. She was almost there. She looked at her classmates they were clapping, shouting, and rooting for her to finish. She gained speed and exceeded her normal speed. The fresh breeze hit her face harder than before. She ran with all her might, and finally made it to the finish line. She arrived to the sound Clap and the cheers arose. She had finally made it. She couldn't wait till her Cross Country meet after school.
Chapter three: The meet
~~~* 4 hours later *~~~
It was finally the big meet. The bright sun was beating down on her. It felt like it was 100 degrees outside. It was the biggest race of them all, the conference race. The whole school was looking to them to win this meet. She felt like the world was on her shoulders. She looked down at her Cross Country uniform. Its colors were a vibrant blue, and red. Her shirt was apple red, with the team name in white, bold letters, as whit as snow. She looked at her shorts they were blue, as the color of the blue crayon crayola had. It was as blue as a blue jay. She looked to her left , there standing was her biggest rival Jennifer. They had been friends when they were younger, but that was different now. Jennifer hated her! That was it, she didn't exactly know why Jennifer hated her. But after she had won the 7th grade conference meet, Jennifer had started to ignore her, and spread rumors about her. Well, she didn't need her as a friend anyway. Or did she?
She looked right to see her friend Elizabeth standing tall, and ready to run. Good luck She said to her.
Good luck to you too, Ericka. You're defiantly going to lead this team to victory. Elizabeth said to her.
She looked up into the bleachers, and searched the faces of the people. Suddenly she saw them. It was her FAMILY. And not just her mom and dad, but her whole immediate family too, there was Erick, Jason, David and Derrick, Sarah, Samantha, and Jessica. Clap, Clap their hands went cheering her in a tremendous applause. She looked up to the person who would signal the start of the race.
On your marks, get set, go The woman yelled shooting the gun into the air.
She ran as fast as she could not lose her concentration for anything. She sprinted as hard as she could. The cool breeze whipped her face and hair. She couldn't describe the feeling she was having, but she knew she belonged when she ran. After a couple of laps she was almost there. She was in the lead, far ahead of everybody else. 5 meters, 5 meters was all she had to run. She started to sprint and finally with an a jolt of adrenaline. She had won. She heard the crowds chant her name Ericka, Ericka. She never wanted this moment to end.

Chapter four: Gone

~~~* A couple of weeks later *~~~
Ahhhh she yawned waking up. She got up and quickly ran to the kitchen and poured herself some cereal and milk. Something caught her attention; her dad's BMW was still in the driveway. Dad was always at work early on Saturday morning. And why was she the only one up? It was 10:00 A.M. and she was the only one in the house hold who slept in late.
She got up and sauntered into her mom and dad's bedroom. They weren't there. She pulled back the bed sheets and found both of her mom, and dad's pajamas still in the bed. Her mom's cross necklace still had the latch together. Her dad's crown from his teeth was on his pajamas. They could only come out with a dentists help. She got up and sprinted to the basement where all her siblings were sleeping. All of their clothes were spread out through the basement. What was happening?
She sprinted upstairs and turned on the news. What she heard made her gasp. Millions of people around the world had disappeared.
